Celebration of Learning, May 12th

Dear Centennial Crew,
The end of the school year is quickly approaching and one of our most anticipated events, The Celebration of Learning, is taking place on Thursday, May 12th from 5:30 – 7:00pm. The Celebration of Learning is an amazing event here at Centennial and we hope you can all attend so our students can present and reflect on all the beautiful work they’ve done this school year. The Celebration of Learning is time for our students to share their learning and achievement and show off their skills to an authentic audience – their families and community. Previous Celebrations of Learning were such joyous events. It was absolutely amazing to see how proud our students were of their growth over the year. I anticipate this year’s Celebration of Learning will be an even more incredible event.

Please come to the Celebration of Learning on May 21st and support your students and the entire Centennial crew. We look forward to seeing you next week.

Laura Munro, Principal

NOTE: 5th grade crew will have their Celebration of Learning on May 19th because of their Balarat overnight adventure.

Estimado equipo Centenario,
Al final del año escolar se acerca rápidamente y uno de los eventos más esperados, la celebración de aprendizaje, está llevando a cabo el jueves, 12 de mayo de 5:30 – 7:00. Parent Engagement and Satisfaction Survey

Every year DPS asks for your input regarding our school. The Parent Engagement and Satisfaction Survey is designed to measure how well Centennial is reaching out to involve parents, the quality of family-school relationships, and your perceptions of the school environment.

Completing this survey is optional BUT, parent feedback is important and the participation of this survey directly affects our School Performance Framework.

Parent Satisfaction is a critical part of our school’s SPF rating. The SPF (School Performance Framework) is a comprehensive system to help schools focus on strengths and areas for targeted improvement. A wide range of measures are used to calculate ratings of how well each school supports student growth and achievement, and how well it serves students and families.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to fill out the survey and return it to the front office. Simply returning the form benefits Centennial, regardless of your answers which remain anonymous. Our parent response rate is just as important as the responses provided.

Just to make things more exciting, every student whose family or guardian returns a completed survey will receive an amazing invisible ink pen.

Only 1 survey needs to be filled in per family, every student in that family will receive a free pen.

What you need to do:

  • Find the Survey sent home with your oldest student, (or pick up a copy in the front office)
  • Fill out the survey, (only 1 survey needed per family)
  • Return the survey to the front office
  • Pick up you invisible ink pens

Thank you for taking the time to give us your opinion about how things are going at Centennial. And thank you for all you do for our Crew!

Helpful Information for Starting the School Year

Parking: Drop Off and Pick Up

We encourage families to park at the large mortuary parking lots at the corner of Tennyson and 46th. They have given us permission to do so. It can be accessed from either Tennyson or 46th. You can then enter through the playground entrances. If you choose to park on the street, know that it gets very congested and on street cleaning days, tickets are issued. (See signs for dates.) Please do not block neighbors’ driveways, or park in handicapped spaces. Our Centennial families need to use them. Bikes are welcome! A bike rack is located by the staff parking lot on 47th (close to the cafeteria).

Arrival: The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. for all students. Students should NOT arrive until 7:45am as no adult supervision is provided on the grounds before this time. Children are NOT permitted in the building before the beginning of school, as teachers are busy preparing the day’s lessons. Students are required to report directly to the playgrounds, where they are supervised by staff from 7:45am until 8:00 a.m. At 8:00am, students will be asked to line up at their classroom doors.

Entering Classrooms

Take children to their specific classroom. Each classroom has an outside door. All ECE parents/guardians are required to sign their students in and out every day. Some teachers encourage families to read books while students eat breakfast in the classroom. Most teachers also ask for an initial period of time at the beginning of school in which parents are not in the classroom as it is disruptive to the students’ adjustment. Teachers welcome parents/guardians to volunteer in the classroom throughout the day, however all adults need to complete a volunteer form, which includes a background check and go to a short volunteer orientation first.

Students are expected to arrive at school on time. Late arrival is an interruption to those already engaged in learning activities and results in a loss of instruction time for the tardy student. Students arriving after 8:05 a.m. must report to the office before going to class.

Adults on Campus

Your child’s safety is our number one concern. With that in mind, any non-staff adult on campus must sign in at the office and wear a volunteer nametag or a visitor badge. Whether you are coming to volunteer for several hours or are just dropping off a lunch, please remember to come to the office first. The nametag serves as a visual ID that lets any staff member know immediately who belongs in the school and it also reinforces our monitoring of people on our campus. All parents must adhere to this rule. Parents will not be permitted to enter the class during regular school hours via the outside classroom doors.
