End of semester parties and events

Dear Families,

As we approach the winter months, cultures all over the world will be celebrating many different holidays in various ways. This letter is coming to you with the hopes that you, as families, can take advantage of the educational opportunities afforded.

We ask that, as your crew celebrates the end of the semester, you prioritize encouraging the children to embrace the traditions of their own and others in our global and diverse society, keeping the celebration as neutral as possible. Many songs, celebrations, and decorations have no association with a particular holiday (think “snow”, for example). As a school that is diversifying more every year, we would like to celebrate the richness of the cultures represented and use the school as an opportunity to teach our children about this richness. Please don’t hesitate to contact us (info below) if you would like ideas for crafts, celebrations, songs, or general ideas.

In addition, if you are planning a gift for the teachers at this time of year, please consider calling it an end of semester gift, or simply a thank you gift, to avoid contributing it to any specific holiday.

Thank you for your understanding,
Perri Klein, Chair of the Diversity and Inclusivity Committee of the PTA
Julie Eichler, PTA President
Laura Munro, Principal, Centennial Elementary

Our Teachers need Supplies for the new Bridges Curriculum. Many of the supplies were provided in our kits, however many basic classroom supplies are lacking. Please review the list link below and see if you can help provide some materials to help our teachers provide the best learning environment for our young scholars.

You can:

  • Give supplies to you scholar’s class teacher.
  • Give them to another grade level teacher
  • Give them to the front office with clear labeling

Parent Portal

Registration for the 2016-2017 school year will open on July 18th and should be completed using the DPS Parent Portal. Stay connected with Centennial over the summer by making sure you can log into the Parent Portal now! Take a moment to log in to make sure you still have access to your account.

Parents do not need to go to the school to get their Person ID or GUID. You can create your own account right through the website. Parents will go directly to myportal.dpsk12.org and click on “Getting Started”. If all of the information on the form matches what the school has on record, you’ll be prompted to create your username and password. If you need your student’s ID number, this number is the same as the lunch number.

If you run into problems, stop by the main office or email Stacy, who can reset your password and get you hooked up.

Have an account but need help navigating the Parent Portal? Check out the Parent Portal School Toolkit.

Celebration of Learning, May 12th

Dear Centennial Crew,
The end of the school year is quickly approaching and one of our most anticipated events, The Celebration of Learning, is taking place on Thursday, May 12th from 5:30 – 7:00pm. The Celebration of Learning is an amazing event here at Centennial and we hope you can all attend so our students can present and reflect on all the beautiful work they’ve done this school year. The Celebration of Learning is time for our students to share their learning and achievement and show off their skills to an authentic audience – their families and community. Previous Celebrations of Learning were such joyous events. It was absolutely amazing to see how proud our students were of their growth over the year. I anticipate this year’s Celebration of Learning will be an even more incredible event.

Please come to the Celebration of Learning on May 21st and support your students and the entire Centennial crew. We look forward to seeing you next week.

Sincerely,
Laura Munro, Principal

NOTE: 5th grade crew will have their Celebration of Learning on May 19th because of their Balarat overnight adventure.

Estimado equipo Centenario,
