Helpful Information for Starting the School Year

Parking: Drop Off and Pick Up

We encourage families to park at the large mortuary parking lots at the corner of Tennyson and 46th. They have given us permission to do so. It can be accessed from either Tennyson or 46th. You can then enter through the playground entrances. If you choose to park on the street, know that it gets very congested and on street cleaning days, tickets are issued. (See signs for dates.) Please do not block neighbors’ driveways, or park in handicapped spaces. Our Centennial families need to use them. Bikes are welcome! A bike rack is located by the staff parking lot on 47th (close to the cafeteria).

Arrival: The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. for all students. Students should NOT arrive until 7:45am as no adult supervision is provided on the grounds before this time. Children are NOT permitted in the building before the beginning of school, as teachers are busy preparing the day’s lessons. Students are required to report directly to the playgrounds, where they are supervised by staff from 7:45am until 8:00 a.m. At 8:00am, students will be asked to line up at their classroom doors.

Entering Classrooms

Take children to their specific classroom. Each classroom has an outside door. All ECE parents/guardians are required to sign their students in and out every day. Some teachers encourage families to read books while students eat breakfast in the classroom. Most teachers also ask for an initial period of time at the beginning of school in which parents are not in the classroom as it is disruptive to the students’ adjustment. Teachers welcome parents/guardians to volunteer in the classroom throughout the day, however all adults need to complete a volunteer form, which includes a background check and go to a short volunteer orientation first.

Students are expected to arrive at school on time. Late arrival is an interruption to those already engaged in learning activities and results in a loss of instruction time for the tardy student. Students arriving after 8:05 a.m. must report to the office before going to class.

Adults on Campus

Your child’s safety is our number one concern. With that in mind, any non-staff adult on campus must sign in at the office and wear a volunteer nametag or a visitor badge. Whether you are coming to volunteer for several hours or are just dropping off a lunch, please remember to come to the office first. The nametag serves as a visual ID that lets any staff member know immediately who belongs in the school and it also reinforces our monitoring of people on our campus. All parents must adhere to this rule. Parents will not be permitted to enter the class during regular school hours via the outside classroom doors.
